Global Configuration


In this section we are going to describe the Global Configuration functionality.  This is where all settings of the Guru CMS are stored.
If you click on the 'Global Configuration' link from the main administration page you can view the following:

Paging, static articles, latest articles, announcements, online/offline mode, meta keywords/description, LDAP setting (optional) and Set administration default language. Let's discussed each one below.

Paging

By setting this variable you define the number of items you want to display per page. For example, if someone is making a search and the results are 50 you can decide
to have 20 items per page.
The default value of this variable is 10, so 10 items will be displayed per page if you do not change it.
If you click on the 'Paging' link the following screen is displayed:

 


Then you just have to enter a number on the text field. By pressing the 'Submit' button your configuration will be saved.
If you want to edit this number then you just have to repeat the previous steps.

Paging affect
By changing the paging variable automatically you set the new limit on articles and search results only.


Static Articles

Static Articles explained
By saying static articles we don't mean static HTML pages.
Everything is dynamic, it's just those pages that appear always on home page thus the term static articles.
You can revert them from been static when you unclick the show on front page check box during article editing.
Then the static article (a common article) will be displayed just on its relevant category.

Static articles are the articles that you have inserted them by clicking on the 'Show on the front page' option. These are the articles that will be displayed in your Home page every time someone is accessing your site.
The 'Static Articles' configuration variable defines the number of static articles you want to show in your home page. From the static articles the title and the introduction text is going to be displayed accompanied with a 'Read more' link.
The default value of this variable is 4, so 4 static articles will be displayed at your home page if you do not change it.
If you click on the 'Static Articles' link the following screen is displayed:

 

Then you just have to enter a number on the text field.
Moreover, you can set the way that the static articles are going to be displayed in the front page. If you choose vertical for example the article titles will be displayed in different columns otherwise in different rows. You can play around and test it in order to find the best for your layout.

Switching layout
Be aware that default template's css might need to be adjusted to display properly both vertical and horizontal layout.

By pressing the 'Submit' button your configuration will be saved. If you want to edit this number then you just have to repeat the previous steps. In the case that you do not enter a number in your submission or it is not a valid number then the previous configuration will not be changed.


Latest Articles

Latest articles functionality displays the latest articles that have been inserted in your content ordered by date, showing the latest on the top.
The 'Latest Articles' configuration variable defines the number of latest articles you want to show in your home page. From the latest articles the title and the date is going to be displayed which are links for the article itself.
The default value of this variable is 5, so 5 latest articles will be displayed at your home page if you do not change it.
If you click on the 'Latest Articles' link the following screen is displayed:

 


Then you just have to enter a number on the text field. By pressing the 'Submit' button your configuration will be saved. If you want to edit this number then you just have to repeat the previous steps. In the case that you do not enter a number in your submission or it is not a valid number then the previous configuration will not be changed.
